The Black Bull Inn and Hotel was built around 400 years ago as a coaching Inn providing accommodation for travellers, coachmen and horses.
The Inn is situated in the picturesque village of Coniston, beside the beck and in the shadow of the ‘Old Man’ mountain.
We have 15 comfortable bedrooms each with bath/shower ensuite, colour TV, tea/coffee making facilities, hair-dryer, full central heating and double glazing. The character of the rooms and inn has however still been retained.
We serve a range of light snacks, catch of the day, hearty meat dishes and vegetarian cuisine.
The most recent addition to our hostelry is a microbrewery, in which we brew our own beer, Bluebird Bitter and Old Man Ale. These are made using only the finest natural ingredients available and our local mountain water. The beer is cask conditioned before being sold to our discerning customers in the bar.
Church House Inn, Torver
The Church House Inn at Torver, near Coniston, has been serving locals and travellers since the 14th Century. Visit us in the heart of the Lake District for great ale, home-cooked food, Bed & Breakfast, and camping.

The Drunken Duck Lake District
Set high above Ambleside, commanding dramatic views of the Lake District fells, the Duck stands at a crossroads, a traditional Lakeland dwelling, reflecting the simplicity, beauty and longevity of its natural environment. From these same fells, we draw not only the water for our beers brewed here on site, but also the inspiration for our restaurant, which showcases the extensive range of quality produce that Cumbria has to offer.

The Crown Inn is situated in the heart of the English Lake District in the centre of the picturesque village of Coniston, close to all local attractions and shops.
Only a short distance from the famous lake which Donald Campbell used for his water speed record with his jet boat Bluebird and only a short distance from the beautiful Tarn Hows.
Coniston is the ideal base to visit the tremendous landscape of streams and mountains including the Coniston Old Man and surrounding Lake District, we are also on the path of the Cumbrian Way and welcome all walkers.

The Rough Guide to the Lake District [all editions] praises ‘Coniston’s superb museum’ as ‘the most thought-provoking in the Lakes’ for its inspirational and award-winning telling of The Story of Coniston from the first Stone Age fell-walkers, who made and traded stone axes, to the Jet Era when the 1950s speed ace Donald Campbell used Coniston Water as Bluebird K7’s race-track.
